Why struggle helps us to GROW

Daily Creative Prompt ~ October 4: GROW

There are days that art is a struggle.

That day when nothing makes sense, your muse is still on vacation, and it is an effort just to pick up a pen or brush.

Today….

….is one of those days!

Maybe it is because I’m a bit out of my element with this particular process, or just because every time I think I know where I am going with it, the next prompt throws a wrench in the whole vision.  Regardless, I just keep going, because I know from personal experience that the things that challenge you also help you to grow…

Which was the prompt for today!

Struggling through a process when all we want to do is give up strengthens not only our resolve, but helps us to learn from the mistakes as well as the successes.  Don’t get too wrapped up in the disappointment if it doesn’t turn out exactly as you would have liked, there is always tomorrow, and after all, it is only a piece of art! Some of the best work I have ever done is a result of struggle.  Without it I fear I would never move beyond my comfort zone.  And if I know anything at all about my Creator, He does not want me to get too comfortable! ;))

Being a garden girl, I love to grow things, especially flowers. So, I pulled out my black and white fluid acrylics and set to defining some areas in my painting that would make great flowers.  I usually choose the places that have great texture or color mixing.  It is those places that you thought would never work that sometimes turn out to be so beautiful.

After creating borders around those places, I filled in all of he areas outside of the flowers with black fluid acrylic. Setting everything apart like this will help to bring some calmness to a busy page.

Now that I can see the growing flowers in my “garden”, I went back in with a mixture of black and white fluid acrylic (ie gray) and gave some of the flowers stems, and others leaves.  Wow, what a change from Monday!

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring.
